THUR, AUG 27 2020-theG&BJournal– A State House press statement said, Prof. Charles Quarker Dokubo has been directed to handover all official matters to the most senior officer of the Presidential Amnesty Programme.
The Presidency said in the statement that President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Col. Milland Dixion Dikio (rtd) as interim Administrator of the Amnesty Programme with effect from August 21, 2020.
‘’This followed the President’s approval of the disengagement of Prof. Charles Quarker Dokubo from office as the coordinator, Amnesty Programme with immediate effect.’’
The Presidential Amnesty Programme and its officers have been frequently criticized for inefficiencies and for dodgy financials.
The Programme, established by the late President Umaru Yar’ Adua in 2009 to aid the end of the disruptive agitations in the oil-producing Niger Delta, has gulped about N500 billion between 2009 and 2020, according a report published Tuesday by Nextier Security, Peace and Development which x-rayed its performance since inception.
The programme was designed to provide militants state pardon, give them educational training, and a monthly stipend in exchange for the surrender of their weapons.
