THUR 07 JAN, 2021-theGBJournal- U.S. President, Donald Trump finally caves in, retreating from his adamant stance that he won the November 2020 U.S. elections to declare today after a tumultuous Wednesday at the Capitol Building, that there will be an orderly transfer of power to President-Elect Joe Biden.

‘’Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20th,’’ Trump said in a statement.

His statement comes as the U.S Vice President Mike Pence and Congress confirmed Biden winner of the election early today to officially end the electoral count. Three electoral votes from the State of Vermont put Joe Biden and Vice President elect Kamala Harris over the 270-threshold required to win the presidency.

‘’The announcement of the state of the vote by the President of the Senate shall be deemed a sufficient declaration of the persons elected President and Vice President of the United States, each for the term beginning 20th day of January 2021 and shall be entered together with the list of the votes on the journals of the Senate and the House of Representatives,’’ Pence said at the conclusion of the Electoral College count.

The confirmation capped a ‘crazy’ day in U.S history, intertwined with fatalities after Trump induced mobs stormed the Capitol Building to disrupt the certification process which should normally be a symbolic proceeding to formalise the presidential results.

Earlier in the week, Vice President Pence broke from Trump after he was pressured to truncate the process, declaring that he was bound by his oath of office to follow the law in performing a role that is merely ceremonial.

Trump reciprocated with an attack on Pence in a tweet in the middle of the Capitol breach, saying that ‘’Mike Pence didn’t have the courage to do what should have been done to protect our country and our constitution.’’

Meanwhile, news reports say 4 people were killed during the looting and ransacking of the Capitol while 52 arrests were made. 14 police officers were reportedly injured after the pro-Trump mob breached the Capitol.
