SUN, SEPT 10 2023-theGBJournal |President Bola Tinubu extended his heartfelt condolences to King Mohammed VI of Morocco following Saturday’s devastating earthquake in his homeland, which claimed many lives.

The President commiserates with all families who lost loved ones and all those otherwise affected by this tragedy, while wishing a full and swift recovery to those who were injured.

President Tinubu assures the government and people of Morocco that the heartfelt prayers and thoughts of Nigerians are with them during this difficult moment of tragedy.

“In the face of this adversity, Nigeria will continue to stand in solidarity with Morocco as they recover, rebuild and come out stronger than ever from this unfortunate event,” the President assured.

Meanwhile, more than 2,000 people have so been killed in what is regarded as the deadliest earthquake to strike the country in decades. 1,404 are reported to be in critical condition by local media outlets.

Morocco will observe three days of mourning and flags will be flown at half-staff on all public buildings, the Royal Palace announced Saturday.

The 6.8-magnitude earthquake shook the country’s High Atlas Mountain range shortly after 11 pm local time on Friday and the relatively shallow depth of 18.5 kilometers.
