WED FEB 05 2025-theGBJournal| President Bola Tinubu Wednesday sent a request to the Senate to raise the proposed 2025 budget from N49.7 trillion to N54.2 trillion, citing significant revenue receipts from government agencies.
The request contained in a letter sent to the Senate, was read by the Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Plenary.
The President said the increase is as a result of N1.4 trillion in additional revenue from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), N1.2 trillion from the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), and N1.8 trillion generated by various other agencies.
The Senate President subsequently referred the request to the Senate Committee on Appropriations for ”urgent” consideration.
The Senate is looking to fast-track deliberation, finalize and pass the budget before the end of February.
