THUR, JUNE 15 2023-theGBJournal |President Bola Ahmed Tinubu today inaugurated the National Executive Council (NEC) at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Nigeria, headed by the Vice President, Kashim Shettima
The Governors of each State of the Federation as well as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) are also members of the NEC.
The NEC, as one of the executive bodies of the Federal Government, has the mandate to advise the President on economic affairs and, in particular, on appropriate measures for the co-ordination of the economic plans and programs of government.
Recall that the Council had last week, was directed by the President to meet and come up with interventions to mitigate the impact of the petroleum subsidy.
At today’s inauguration, the President reminded the Council that the task of growing the economy is quite huge as he underlined the need to harness the country’s potentials to stimulate economic growth.
He reminded the Council also of the promises he during his inauguration, of focusing on eight priority areas of security, economy, job creation infrastructure and agriculture among others.
A host of State Governors including Benue State Governor, Hycinth Alia, Nasir Idris of Kebbi State, Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State as well as Kwara state Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, Yaha Bello of Kogi State, Governor of Ekiti State Biodun Oyebanji and Nasarawa State Governor Abullahi Sule.
Top Government functionaries including Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akuma and Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamilla were in attendance.
