President Tinubu appoints Bianca Ojukwu as Minister of State, sacks 5 Ministers in a major Cabinet reshuffle

WED OCT 23 2024-theGBJournal| Former beauty queen and wife of renowned Nigerian politician, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu (late) has been appointed by President Bola Tinubu as new Minister of State, Foreign Affairs.

She is one of the new faces named in a major cabinet reshuffle.

Six other prominent Nigerians were appointed alongside Bianca, in the changes that has been subject of speculation for months now.

The new faces are Nentawe Yilwatda, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction; Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, Minister of Labour and Employment, Jumoke Oduwole, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment (Trade and Investment) as well as Idi Mukhtar Maiha as Minister of Livestock Development, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development and Suwaiba Said Ahmed as Minister of State, Education.

President Tinubu also appointed Sunday Akin Dare as Special Adviser to the President on Public Communication and Orientation, working from the Ministry of Information and National Orientation.

He named Shehu Dikko as Chairman of the National Sports Commission while merging the Federal Ministry of Tourism and the Federal Ministry of Arts and Culture to become Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy.

The appointments are subject to confirmation by the Senate.

Meanwhile, Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Ken Ohaneye, Minister of Tourism, Lola Ade John, Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development and Minster of Youth Development, Dr Jamila Bio Ibrahim are all sacked from the Cabinet.

The Presidency say the appointment is part of eight far-reaching actions taken to reinvigorate President Tinubu’s administration’s capacity for optimal efficiency pursuant of the commitment to deliver on his promises to Nigerians.

In a separate development, the President renamed the Ministry of Niger Delta Development to Ministry of Regional Development to oversee the activities of all the Regional Development Commissions.

The Regional Development Commissions to be under the supervisions of the new ministry are; the Niger Delta Development Commission, the South East Development Commission, the North East Development and the North West Development Commission.

The Ministry of Sports Development was also dissolved and its functions transferred to the National Sports Commission.
