WED, MAY. 10 2023-theGBJournal| President Muhammadu Buhari Wednesday sent a letter to the Nigerian Senate seeking the approval for a $800 million loan from the World Bank to cushion the effects of subsidy removal.

The request was contained in a letter to the Senate and read out by Senate President, Ahmad Lawan at the Plenary.

The President told the Senate that the loan would be used to scale up the National Social Safety Net Programme.

Meanwhile, SERAP Nigeria, the nonprofit, nonpartisan, legal and advocacy group is urging the Senate President and all Senators to immediately reject the request, insisting that the Senate must ask the administration to publish details of spending of all loans obtained since May 29, 2015.
