WED, 23 NOV, 2022-theGBJournal| President Muhammadu Buhari today presided over Federal Executive Council (FEC) Meeting, and launched the newly redesigned Naira notes at the State House, Abuja.
The President expressed delight that the new notes are locally produced by the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting (NSPM) Plc.
The launch of the new notes, which was earlier scheduled for December 15, was brought forward to Wednesday by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, announced the change Tuesday during the Monetary Policy Committee briefing in Abuja.
He said the change in date is to enable the apex bank beat the January 31, 2023 deadline set for disposing the old notes.
Emefiele praised the President for his ”unwavering support for the redesign and distribution of the new notes,” which he says will control inflation, make policies more effective, ensure financial inclusion and fight corruption.
The CBN Governor listed the benefits of the redesigned Naira notes to include enhanced security, greater durability, attractiveness and promotion of rich cultural heritage
