WED, FEBRUARY 27 2019-theG&BJournal- The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced President Muhammadu Buhari as the winner of the Presidential Election held on February 23 2019.
The Commission said today that the tallies were as follows: President Buhari with 15,191,847, rival opposition leader, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with 11, 262,978. The nearest rival to both leading contenders the African Democratic Congress (ADC) scored 97, 874 votes.
INEC said the total number of voters cast was 28, 614, 190 but 1,289, 607 were rejected and 27, 324, 538 votes were valid. A total of 82,344, 107 voters were registered.
PDP’s crushing loss by 3,928,873, the biggest defeat inflicted on a rival party, shocked the party’s hierarchy. The reaction was mixed and that reverberated at the collation centre were the results were announced and never has an election so widely predicted caused so much shock.
One visibly angry PDP chieftain said they will challenge the tallies in court immediately the INEC boss Mahmood Yakubu closed proceedings leading the final call to close the Presidential election.
‘’It is clear that that most figures were fabricated to produce this type of result. It is shocking’’ said one party supporter in Abuja.
Osita Chidoka, a PDP spokesperson earlier had implored the INEC boss not to announce any winner after he reeled out figures he said did not match those announced by INEC. He hinted that his Party will call for a scrupulous audit of the election tallies.
