WED, AUG 26 2020-theG&BJournal– The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved N722.3 million for eight field auditors chosen to audit the finances of the Niger Delta Commission (NDDC), and the funding will be undertaken by the Presidency.
The Minister of Niger Delta, Godswill Akpabio speaking after the virtual FEC meeting today, explained that President Muhammadu Buhari ‘graciously’ directed and approved that the payment for the forensic exercise should be undertaken through the budget of the Presidency to enable the forensic audit exercise to move forward and be completed on time, given that the budget of the NDDC has not been passed.
He said that the first amount that was approved for the lead forensic auditor was about N318 million and this amount of about N722.3 million is for the first batch of eight field forensic auditors.
According to the minister, ‘’we expect to conclude the field forensic audit procurement in one or two weeks, to be able to bring in additional 78 of them because of the number of years to be audited-19 years.’’
Today’s FEC meeting was presided over by President Buhari.
