MON, FEBRUARY 6 2017-The Plateau state government has set in motion a process of reconciling the state’s financial account including its investments in equities in the capital market with the engagement of an accounting firm.
The firm will among other assignments help clean up the state pay roll which is bedevilled with names of fake employees as well as reconcile the state government’s investments in equities markets.
The state Commissioner for Information and Communication Muhammad Nazif told newsmen weekend that 579 persons have already been taken off the salary pay roll of the state due to irregularities such as over staying in the service more than necessary and placement that does not correlate with the civil service system of promotion.
He said the state through the process now saves N68,554,694.27 monthly . He disclosed that 101 persons out of those who are found guilty of over stay will remit the total sum of N76,763,551.15 for staying in service beyond their terminal dates.
“Efforts are being made towards full reconciliation of all debts of the state. This has led to the restructuring of previous administration’s debt at a lower interest rate, as at September 2016, the total debt portfolio was N110,812,789.79 out of which N16,561,983.097 has been paid” he said.
