THUR AUG 01 2024-theGBJournal| Increased security measures is seen across the country amid several ongoing protests as the call to ”End Bad Governance in Nigeria Protests” kicks off today.

Tens of thousands have thronged the streets and stadiums airing their views. At the same time hundreds of anti-protesters have also taken to the streets demanding an end to the protests.

Security personnel are deployed to likely hot spots in Abuja, Lagos and other major cities across the country.

”Our main demand is for government to listen to us and hear our plea to end bad governance in the country and at same time end the hunger in the country,” Kelechi, one among the hundreds seen in Lagos told theG&BJournal.

”Today’s protest is a testament to our resolve to correct the evils associated with governance in this country,” he adds.

Protesters gather

Shops, market places and businesses across the country have been shut also, fearing violence.

In Abuja Police is seen teargassing protesters around the federal capital territory secretariat and the Eagle Square.

In Lagos, pro-government protesters converged ahead of the rally in Alausa, Ikeja.

In Ojota, a popular gathering point, heavy police presence is seem. Protesters were later seen thronging the area gradually, demanding the government come dialogue with them on the street. Scores were also seen converging around Ikeja under bridge, a major transport hub in the city.

In Zamfara, reports say the police force was resisted when they tried to force protesters out of the streets.

In Gombe, Borno State the crowd massed around major areas of the city, calling on government to be responsive to peoples plight and demands to end bad governance. Gombe remained largely calm until police unleashed tear gas on the peaceful protesters.

In Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the protest began gaining momentum as early as 9 am with thousands seen waving the Nigerian flag. Several hundreds later converged at the State House, asking Governor Sim Fubara to come down and dialogue with them.

From Nigeria’s North to the South, people are making their voices heard.
