WED JULY 30 2025-theGBJournal| With the number of political heavyweights identifying with The African Democratic Congress (ADC), the party has, in the view of many Nigerians, quietly emerged as the main threat to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

ADC, a coalition formed in the wake of the implosion of the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and loud grumbles against the ruling party’s handling of the economy, is already eyeing Aso Rock.

The Party held its 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Tuesday in Abuja, where former Senate President, Senator David Mark and Ogbenu Rauf Aregbesola, former Minister of Interior, were sworn in as Interim National Chairman and Secretary, respectively.

At the NEC meeting notable decisions were taken that reflects the party’s resolve to internalize discipline and internal democracy as well as transparency.

One of the key decisions was the reinstatement of expelled members, with the exception of party’s 2023 presidential candidate Dumebi Kachikwu. The move is seen as a masterstroke, that underscores the party’s resolve to entrench trust and, at the same time discipline.

A motion was also passed to dissolve the former National Working Committee (NWC) and the Board of Trustee (BoT), allowing the new leadership to assume full responsibility until new congresses are held.

Meanwhile, in his speech, David Mark pledged to uphold internal democracy, transparency, and youth and women inclusion—reserving 35% of leadership roles for women and ensuring youth under 40 are actively involved.

He also announced the formation of a 50-member Policy Committee to review the party’s manifesto and drive reforms in key sectors.

Outgoing Chairman, Ralph Nwosu, praised the party’s resistance to pressure and financial inducements aimed at turning Nigeria into a one-party state.

Significantly, the meeting was observed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
