SUN, MAY 21 2023-theGBJournal |Champions Manchester City defeated Chelsea 1-0 in what’s a dead rubber match with City assured of the title already and Chelsea assured of escaping relegation and not qualifying for Europe.
There was more or less nothing at stake for the match but City made sure it closed out the season in style. City was presented with the trophy after another scintillating display.
Of course Chelsea gave them a guard of honor before heading to the bottom-half finish in the Premier League for the first time since 1995–96.
Chelsea ended their season’s misery in today’s contest having failed to win any of their last 14 Premier League games against teams starting the day above them in the table, and while they have lost six of their last seven visits to the Etihad.
Manchester City are in the form of their lives, fresh from eliminating defending Champions League title holders, Real Madrid.
City have already won the title before today’s match, but they need to be in the right shape as they have both the FA and UCL Cup finals standing between them and a treble.
City’s goal machine, Erling Haaland, has been in extraordinary form this season, scoring 36 league goals, this season but didn’t add to his tally today. The Norwegian super star has seven goals in his last ten outings.
