WED, 25 MAY, 2022-theGBJournal| The former governor of Anambra and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant, Peter Gregory Obi has resigned from the party and withdrew from the Presidential race effective today.
Obi announced his move on twitter today, saying that he has conveyed his intention to the party Chairman of Agulu Ward 2, Anaocho LGA, Anambra State.
‘’I am by this letter informing you of my withdrawal for the PDP Presidential Primaries,’’ he said in the letter.
Obi Cited what he described as ‘’recent development within the party’’ which he says has made it practically impossible to ‘’continue participating and making such constructive contributions.’’
He referenced also the country’s challenges which he says are deep seated and require ‘’that we each make profound sacrifices towards rescuing our country.’’ Adding that his commitment to rescuing Nigeria remains firm, even if the route differs.
Before his resignation, there were strong calls for him to leave the PDP and seek to actualise his presidential aspiration on the platform of another political party.
A Coalition of 18 support groups for Peter Obi (COP) yesterday asked the former governor of Anambra state to dump the PDP and contest in the 2023 presidential election on the platform of another political party.
The Coalition stated that politicians inside the PDP presidential aspirants are doling out hundreds of millions of dollars to buy the delegates that will vote at the forthcoming PDP presidential primary. They therefore advised Peter Obi to move to another political party to contest the 2023 elections.
