SUN SEPT 28 2025-theGBJournal| The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has ordered a nationwide strike following the mass sack of over 800 of its members by Dangote Refinery.
The decision comes after the National Executive Council (NEC) of PENGASSAN met for an emergency meeting on Saturday.
According to PENGASSAN, ”members working across field locations are to withdraw services effective 06:00hrs on Sunday, 28th of September, 2025 and commence 24-hour prayer. This includes all control room operations, panel operations, and outfield personal.”
The NEC equally ordered members across all offices, companies, institutions, and agencies to withdraw all services effective 00:01 on Monday, 29th of September, 2025, and warned that no intervention ”whatsoever will be entertained across field locations except where safety of personnel and assets is at risk.
Similarly PENGASSAN executive told members to cut off all processes that involve gas and crude supply to Dangote Refinery ”effectively immediately” while urging all International Oil Companies (IOCs) branches to ramp down gas production and supply to Dangote Refinery and petrochemicals.
PENGASSAN describes the sack of its members at the Dangote Refinery as an ”affront to all workers in Nigeria and a deliberate violation of Nigeria’s labour laws, the Constitution, and ILO conventions.”
The Union claimed that the management of the Refinery hired over 2000 Indians to replace the sacked Nigerian workers, and the described the act as a ”show of disloyalty to a country that has given him the most incentives any company has ever enjoyed in Nigeria, at taxpayers’ expense.”
