…Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, former Deputy National Chairman (South), also elected as National Secretary

SUN NOV 16 2025-theGBJournal| The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has elected Dr. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, as the new National Chairman, a landmark moment for Nigeria’s opposition politics.

Tanimu Turaki emergence comes after the PDP delegates decisively expelled Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under the All Progressives Congress (APC), alongside numerous other party members seen as saboteurs, from its fold.

Expelled alongside Nyesom Wike are Samuel Anyanwu, Kamaldeen Ajibade, Ayo Fayose, Austin Nwachukwu, Umar Bature, Adeyemi Ajibade (SAN), and Mohammed Abdalrahman.

Others are Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Hon. Austin Nwachukwu, Abraham Amah George Turner and Chief Dan Orbih, all of who have been in the centre of the crisis that threatened to sink the country’s second largest opposition party.

All have been adjudged to be engaged in anti-party activities.

Meanwhile, the PDP also elected Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, former Deputy National Chairman (South), as new National Secretary during the Elective National Convention at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Adamasingba, Ibadan.

The convention, attended by over 3,000 delegates from across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, marks a pivotal step toward party unity and renewal ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The proceedings, which commenced on November 15 and spanned into the early hours of November 16, unfolded with remarkable efficiency and enthusiasm.

Senator Ben Obi, overseeing the electoral processes, guided delegates through a transparent voting mechanism that underscored the PDP’s commitment to democratic principles.
