THUR, 10 NOV, 2022-theGBJournal| The Peoples Democratic Campaign (PDP) Wednesday issued a very strongly worded statement condemned the attack on its Presidential Campaign convoy in Maiduguri, Borno State, and at the same time squarely accusing the ruling opposition party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) of masterminding the attacks.
‘’The attack is consistent with the All Progressives Congress (APC) habitual resort to violence in the face of rejection by the people as also witnessed in the attack on the Peoples Democratic Campaign (PDP) rally in Kaduna State on October 17, 2022,’’ PDP said Wednesday to underscore their claim.
PDP Presidential candidate’s convoy was attacked by hundreds of thugs at major roundabouts and intersections in Maiduguri Wednesday. The attack left over 70 persons gravely injured and hospitalized.
The PDP described the attack as ‘’barbaric and anti-social behavior’’ and noted strongly that the act is contrary to the Peace Accord all political parties in Nigeria signed on September 28, 2022. It added that the attack constitutes a ‘’clear and present danger to democracy, our electoral process and the 2023 general elections.’
According to the statement by the PDP, ‘’it is clear the APC has become confused, frenetic and chaotic following the daily mass exodus of its key members into the PDP across the nooks and crannies of the State as witnessed at the PDP Presidential campaign rally in Maiduguri in support of Atiku and in clear rejection of the APC Presidential candidate, Ashiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his running mate, Kashim Shettima.’’
The PDP added that it not daunted and cannot be deterred by ‘’cowardly attacks by the APC as Nigerians are already connected with the PDP’s issue-based campaign in the mission to rescue, rebuild and redirect our nation from asphyxiating misrule of the APC.’’
It consequently called on President Muhammadu Buhari and the Inspector General of Nigeria Police to take immediate action to arrest ‘’this constant incidence of violence being unleased by the APC on PDP campaign activities.’’
