MON, JUN 22 2020-theG&BJournal- Pastor Ize-Iyamu has been declared victorious at the All Progressives Congress (APC) direct primary election in Edo State.
His victory was announced today by Senator Hope Uzodimma who chaired the election process. He described the election process and result ‘’as a formality’’ in accordance with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines.
‘’Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu is hereby returned the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the forthcoming elections in Edo State, haven scored the highest vote cast in the primaries election,’’ Uzodimma declared.
He revealed that Ize-Iyamu scored 27, 837 votes ‘’fielded from the various wards and local Government Areas (LGAs) across the State.
The party’s factional chairman in the State, Mr Anselm Ojezua last week raised eye brows when he rejected Uzodimma’s Election Committee given the responsibility to organize the election. But his objection was quickly dismissed by other stakeholders.
The emergence of Ize-Iyamu as winner lays to rest contentions about the party’s flag bearer in September’s governorship election in the State following days of in-fighting between former National Party Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole and Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Obaseki has since defected to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
