TUE APRIL 08 2025-theGBJournal| The Imo State born entrepreneur, businessman and banker, Pascal Gabriel Dozie has died, aged 85.
In early years, Dozie was largely influenced by his mother who owned a bakery, and later as a young man he found himself on the streets of Idi Amin’s Kampala, Uganda where he learned to earn and manage money.
His mother’s illness in later years forced him and his wife back to Nigeria where he quickly began a consulting business, and later launched his consulting firm, the African Development Consulting Group (ADCG).
ADCG subsequently worked for multinationals like Nestle and Pfizer.
In 1971 his company was tapped by the then Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Clement Isong, to help the apex bank conduct studies on the Co-operative and Commerce Bank, his first major work.
After an excellent career as Chairman of the long defunct Progress Bank (1985), Dozie applied for a banking licence and with that gave birth to Diamond in 1991, a second generation bank which later help redefine Nigeria’s banking landscape by leveraging technology and connecting people to market.
He ran the bank as the Chief Executive Officer from 1991 to 2006 before handing over to his first son Uzoma Dozie.
Dozie studied operational research and industrial engineering at City Ubiversity in London and obtained a degree in Administrative Science.
The family has not made an official statement yet but reports say he died from an undisclosed ailment.
