The Oyo State branch of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners has lauded Gov. Seyi Makinde for prompt payment of pensions and salaries of workers.
The commendation was contained in a letter to the governor signed by Mr Olusegun Abatan, the State Secretary of the union, and made available to newsmen in Ibadan on Friday.
According to the letter, salaries and pensions had been received on the 25th of the month since the inception of the Makinde administration.
”The development is a fulfillment of Makinde’s election promises and we urge the governor to sustain the good gesture.
”It is commendable that Makinde ordered the payment of May salaries immediately he was sworn in on May 29.
”Members of the union are delighted following the fulfillment of the governor’s pledge to put smiles on faces of the civil servants and pensioners by paying their salaries on 25th of every month.
”We are highly delighted with Gov. Makinde on his strides since he assumed the mantle of governance in Oyo State,” the letter said.
It also appreciated the governor for paying in full the pensions of both retired primary school teachers and local government pensioners ”unlike the previous administration that paid in percentages.”
”Pensioners in Oyo State couldn’t have got a better compassionate friend than Mr Seyi Makinde,” the letter said.
