MON, 02 NOV, 2020-theGBJournal-President Muhammadu Buhari said Sunday in a twitter statement that over a million applications have already been received since the N75 billion Nigerian Youth Investment Fund (NYIF) Portal went live on October 12, 2020.
The Fund was set up to invest in the innovative ideas, skills and talents of young Nigerians. It is an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development funded by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The Fund provides opportunity for Nigerian youths to get N250, 000 to N50 million (per MSME) at 5 percent for business idea.
Meanwhile, the Ministry said they have concluded plans to create a data for youths to ensure they derive maximum benefits from government programmes. This would also ensure evaluation and proper monitoring.
Speaking during the third edition of the Town Hall Meeting , The Minister of Youth and Sports Development Mr Sunday Dare said” I have had interactions with our youths in the last few weeks. I was shocked to discover that most of them are not aware of what government is doing to address their concerns. We are working to update our data for presentation to the NGOs with whom we would be working.
The Ministry has also scaled up its digital skills training to cover 500,000 youth across the country after securing funding under the COVID-19 stimulus budget.
The training was conceived in 2019 under the initiative called DEEL but was placed on hold due to lack of funding to fully implement its components.
DEEL is Digital Skills Acquisition, Entrepreneurship, Employability and Leadership.
