OGUN, SEPTEMBER 24, 2016 – Mr Olusola Odofin-Sonuga, Chairman, Ogun House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, has called on the electorate to vote for candidates with integrity in the upcoming council elections.
Odofin-Sonuga made the call on Saturday in Abeokuta in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.
The chairmanship and councillorship elections into 20 Council Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Ogun comes up on Oct. 8.
The committee chairman urged the electorate to consider the candidates’ character and cast their votes for those who had been contributing to the development of their area.
“I urge the people of the state to cast their votes for candidates that have been contributing in one way or the other to the development of their areas.
“It is important to vote for candidates who will complement the efforts of Gov. Ibikunle Amosun in the development of infrastructure and spread the dividends of democracy to all nooks and crannies of the state,’’ he said.
The lawmaker cautioned that elections should not be seen as `do-or-die affair’ by political parties, saying that the electorate should be allowed to elect who they wanted.
“Election is not a do-or-die affair; if we make reference to the Bible or Quran; power belongs to God.
“If people want you or your party to be their representative, they will vote for you.
“There will not be room for cheating or manipulation; if anyone has it in mind that you want to rig or cause trouble during the elections, you will face the wrath of the law.
