TUE, JUN 02 2020-theG&BJournal– Majekodunmi Fasheke- who sang the monumental hit song Send Down The Rain has died, aged 71 in the United States, after years of health complications.
His death was confirmed by his manager Omenka Uzoma, on the singer’s official Instagram handle.
‘’Today been having pressure calls, well it is true that the African No1 Legendary ICON has gone to be with the Lord his maker,’’ Uzoma wrote.
Simply known as Majek Fashek, the singer song-writer is best known for his 1988 hit album, Prisoner of Conscience which included his multi-award winning single, Send Down the Rain, regarded as one the greatest songs in Nigeria’s music industry. The song earned him so many accolades and incidentally a new nickname-the Rain Maker.
He worked with great artists and toured extensively globally playing alongside heavy weights such as the late King of Pops, Michael Jackson, Tracy Chapman, Beyonce and legendary rapper Snoop Dogg.
His song, So Long Too Long (1991) was another big hit which earned him global exposure but it is impossible to tell the story of Majek without telling the tale of his cover of legendary Bob Marley’s monumental song Redemption Song.
He was born in Benin-City, Edo State by parents from Osun State.
