TUE, 09 AUG, 2022-theGBJournal| The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), in its latest Nigeria Electricity Report, said the number of metered customers rose by 36.18% from 3.51 million in 2020 to 4.77 million in 2021, while estimated billing customers decreased by 16.32% from 6.86 million in 2020 to 5.74 million in 2021.
The report which details energy billed, revenue generated and customers by DISCOS, shows also that electricity billed in 2021 grew by 5.98% from 22,042.28 (Gwh) in 2020 to 23,360.59 (Gwh) in 2021.
In 2021, total revenue collected by the DISCOs stood at N761.17 billion, an increase of 44.50% compared to N526.77 billion in 2020. Moreover, the total number of customers recorded in 2021 was 10.51 million, higher than 10.37 million in 2020.
The data which is provided by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and verified and validated by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) shows that 2021 IKEJA (IEDC) billed 4,088.62, the highest among the DISCOs with N155,012.01 million in revenue. YOLA (YEDC) has the lowest billed customers and N9,804.00 million in revenue.
ABUJA (AEDC) has the highest number of metered customers in the country at 701,781 while YOLA (YEDC) boosts of 65,098 only. IBADAN (IBEDC) has the highest number in terms of estimated billings with 1,302,371 customers still suffering the wrath of ladder-carrying staff of the company. The number at IKEJA (IEDC) is lowest at 248,055 customers.
