SAT SEPT 07 2024-theGBJournal|The Nigerian Midstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) Friday granted Nigeria’s UTM Offshore ”license-to-construct” to build first-ever floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility in Nigeria.

The project, located in OML 104 in Akwa Ibom State is expected to be commissioned in 2028 and will aim to process 324 mmscf/d of natural gas gas and with LPG, condensate, and 2.8 million tonnes of LNG per year.

Farouk Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of NMDPRA sees the development as a ”significant milestone” which he says aligns with the gas expansion ambitions of the federal government which include the expansion of Midstream Gas facilitiues in Nigeria.

Recall that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in early July 2023, backed the implementation of a $5 billion floating Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project in the country.

The president gave the support when he received a group of joint venture partners made up of UTM FLNG, TECHNIP Energies and JGC Corporation in his office at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Speaking to State House reporters after the meeting, leader of the delegation and Group Managing Director (GMD) of UTM FLNG, Julius Rone, said the multi-floating LNGs are being implemented with a $5 billion loan from Africa Export-Import Bank (AFRIEXIM).
