TUE AUG 05 2025-theGBJournal| The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) Chief Executive, Engr. Farouk Ahmed, delivered a steering goodwill message at the 48th edition of the Society of Petroleum Engineers’ Nigerian Annual International Conference and Exhibition (NAICE), which commenced on Monday, in Lagos.
Speaking on the theme, “Building a Sustainable Energy Future: Leveraging Technology, Supply Chain, Human Resources and Policy,” Engr. Ahmed underscored the urgent need for strategic collaboration to achieve sustainable energy development in Nigeria. He said that the conference comes at a pivotal time as the nation works toward becoming a $1 trillion economy by 2030.
“The energy future of Nigeria is a critical driver for the attainment of our economic goals,” Ahmed stated. “Access to affordable and clean energy is required to catalyze industrial growth and enhance our manufacturing capacity.”
Ahmed highlighted key enablers of a sustainable energy future, including technology, optimized supply chains, human capital development, and transparent policy frameworks. He called for focused investment in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, carbon capture and storage, hydrogen technology, energy storage systems, and smart grids.
He also pointed to the importance of supply chain efficiency in meeting national energy targets, calling for advancements in gas distribution infrastructure, virtual pipelines, and liberalized markets. On human resources, he stressed the need for cross-sectoral training and synergy between regulators, operators, and service providers.
“As regulators, we reaffirm our commitment to enabling investment, fostering innovation, and ensuring sustainability across the midstream and downstream sub-sectors,” he said.
The ACE commended the SPE Nigeria Council and its Chairperson, Engr. Amina Danmadami, for their steering leadership and dedication to the industry. He also lauded the role of SPE in nurturing young energy professionals and fostering gender inclusion across the engineering and technology fields.
Engr. Ahmed closed his remarks with a call for collaboration: “The target of a sustainable energy future is within reach if we act together, innovate boldly, and govern wisely”, he charged.
The NAICE 2025 conference continues through the week, bringing together industry leaders, policymakers, regulators, researchers, and innovators to reshape and strengthen the future of Nigeria’s energy landscape.
