TUE JUNE 04 2024-theGBJournal|The joint leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have ”relaxed” their nationwide industrial action for a week to allow for negotiations to continue on the new minimum wage.
The unions say they are relaxing their action having agreed to meet with the negotiating officials of the Federal Government (FG), and to also give the FG the one week grace asked for to test their sincerity.
” It is not a suspension. It is not a call off but we are giving them one week moratorium to perfect what is thought was impossible, Francis Akinjorin, the deputy National Secretary, air transport employees, said on Tuesday.
Recall that President Bola Tinubu had earlier today said that his administration is committed to a new national minimum wage higher than the N60,000, the Organised Labour announced in the early hours of Tuesday.
The Labour Unions consequently agreed to convene a meeting of its organs immediately to consider the President’s commitment.
