ABUJA, JULY 15, 2016 – The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), says the number of postal items in its custody that could not be delivered is on the rise in Abuja. This is contained in a statement given to NAN, by NIPOST’s Corporate Affairs Manager, Mr Taiye Olaniyi, in Abuja on Friday.

Olaniyi said in the statement that many items could not be delivered to their destinations within the advertised time frame in recent times due to faulty addresses.

He said attempts made at getting mails that comprised mostly of academic certificates from foreign institutions of higher learning were unsuccessful owing to insufficient addresses.

He called on the residents of the metropolis who were expecting one mail or the other to visit NIPOST office at Area 10, Garki, Abuja, with concrete and verifiable identification.

“It is instructive to note that seamless mail delivery in postal operations is predicated on provision of legible, accurate and identifiable addresses.

The statement said such specifics included Post Office Box/Private Mail Bag numbers and or Street/House numbers and locations as well as the Postcode of the area.

“Basically, a correctly addressed mail is of mutual benefit to the operator and the customer because it hastens mail processing and facilitates prompt deliveries to rightful owners.

“We, therefore, enjoin customers to be more painstaking in addressing their mails’’, it said.

Olaniyi, in an earlier interview, appealed to the public to carefully write out addresses on parcels and mails possibly in capital letters to enhance speedy deliveries.

He said many valuables and important documents that might define people’s destinies and statuses were frequently abandoned at the post offices because the people handling the items could not understand the addresses.

Olaniyi advised customers to always have it in mind when addressing parcels that the person on the other side of the counter is not in their mind to know precisely where the parcels were headed.

He added that for effective and speedy delivery of parcels, customers must endeavour to outline the addresses in an accurate and concise manner to help the agency carry out its function effectively.
