MON MAY 12 2025-theGBJournal| Nigeria’s Flying Eagles beat Senegal 3-1 on Monday in a dramatic penalty shootout after extra time to reach the U-20 AFCON semi-finals.
The match between the old rivals saw Nigeria, unbeaten in the group stage, maintain their coolness during the penalty shootout to deal the blow on Senegal.
The win secures the Flying Eagles a spot, at the same time, for the Under 20 World Cup tournament which takes place in Chile from 27 September to 19 October 2025.
Senegal’s Pierre Dorval and Mame Mor Faye failed to beat Nigeria’s goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt from the spot.
Nigeria’s forward, Precious Benjamin, Emmanuel Chukuwu and Israel Ayuma converted from the spot to send hundreds of Flying Eagles fans at the Suez Canal Stadium into frenzy.
The win marks Flying Eagles’ eight successive quarter-final win at the U-20 AFCON under the current format.
