WED SEPT 04 2024-theGBJournal| The leadership of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has served an ominous notice that could see huge disruptions across the country given previous antecedents.
The Nigerian students representatives issued a statement today notifying of an impending ”massive” shutdown of all major cities in Nigeria, effective 15th September 2024, in protest of the recent hike in fuel prices and what it says is the ”gross incompetence of the NNPC Managing Director, Mele Kyari.”
”We can longer stand idly by while our future is mortgaged by the actions of a few,” NANS warned while reacting to what it sees as ”incessant increase of fuel prices and the untold hardship to the masses.”
NANS called out all Nigerian students across the country to ”wake up to this clarion call, as we will be occupying all major cities on the 15th of September, 2024.”
It added; ”We shall not be silenced, and we shall not be intimidated, We shall rise in unison to demand a better deal for Nigerian students and the masses.”
NANS urged Nigerians to take necessary measures to maintain law and order during the shutdown, ”as we assure you that our protest will be peaceful and lawful.”
The protest letter is copied the Director General, Nigerian Civil Defence Corps (NCDC), Commandant General, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Chief of Defence Staff, Nigerian Armed Forces as well as all State Governors.
