SAT AUG 02 2025-theGBJournal| The Nigerian stock market climbed for the tenth consecutive week with the NGX benchmark All-Share Index settling 1.00% higher to 141,264.05 points on Friday.
All other indices finished higher with the exception of NGX Insurance and NGX Oil and Gas which depreciated by 1.22% and 0.48% respectively, while the NGX ASeM Index closed flat
Market capitalization rose by N4.32 trillion w/w (or 5.08% w/w) to N89.37 trillion with the year-to-date return rising to 37.25% from the 30.63% recorded in the previous week.
The bullish momentum was spurred by impressive H1 earnings report across select bellwether stocks, particularly in MTNN (+20.00% w/w), DANGCEM (+7.16% w/w), BUACEMENT (+5.85% w/w), and WAPCO (+19.15% w/w).
These gains were notably supported by buying interest in banking names, including GTCO (+5.85% w/w), ZENITHBANK (+3.38% w/w), UBA (+4.79% w/w) and ACCESSCORP (+1.08% w/w).
Broadly speaking, these gains offset selling pressure in TRANSCORP (-1.77% w/w), FIRSTHOLDCO (-7.73% w/w), OANDO (-11.57% w/w), and INTBREW (-9.21% w/w).
An analysis of the market performance Friday reflects a 1.00% gain in the NGX ASI and the market capitalisation, driven by buying interest in BUAFOODS (+5.32%), MTNN (+1.69%), and BUACEMENT (+9.63%), offsetting declines in GTCO (-1.00%), and TRANSCORP (-5.66%).
Market activity declined compared to the previous session, with transaction volume and value declining by 2.72% and 20.20% respectively.
FCMB (+8.00%) led the volume chart with 277.21mn units, while ARADEL (-1.89%) led the value chart with N3.26bn worth of trades.
Market breadth closed negative at 0.97x, indicating higher number of market losers than gainers. UACN (+9.96%) led the thirty-four gainers, while DANGSUGAR (-10.0%) topped the list of thirty-five laggards and the rest of stocks were unchanged.
Meanwhile, the NASD OTC Securities Index (NSI) and market capitalisation advanced by 6.10% w/w and 6.12% w/w, respectively.
The NSI closed at 3,701.67 points, while market capitalisation closed N2.17trn.
Market activity was mixed, as volume declined considerably by 89.43% and value of transactions rose by 64.34%.
