MON 22 MARCH, 2021-theGBJournal-The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) said in their explanation statement seen by theGBJournal that the suspension of exports from the Lagos Ports Complex and the Tin Can Island Port is as ‘’a result of a backlog of 600 trucks that have approached the port coming out of their trucks park and are currently in that location within the corridors, within the Lilyponds.’’
‘’The Authority hereby announces a 14-day (two weeks) suspension of export receipts at both ports and all satellite truck parks, with effect from Monday, March 22, 2021,’’ NPA said in a statement Monday.
According to the NPA, ‘’this development is necessitated by the need for consultations with export cargo stakeholders, and the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) on harmonisation of procedures required of owners of this category of cargo.’’
The NPA noted in the statement signed by its General Manager, Corporate and Strategic Communications, Ibrahim Nasiru, that, ‘’the suspension does not affect export refrigerated cargo and trucks whose operators have secured call up tickets as at Friday March 19, 2021.’’
The Authourity has been battling to restore sanity at the Ports access roads since it introduced the Electronic Call System.
Hadiza Bala Usman, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports had hoped that the Call-up system, which is powered by a web application called ‘’Eto’’, will help put an end to the perennial traffic jam caused by articulated trucks within the export corridor.
