FRI, 18 DEC, 2020-theGBJournal- The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP) Friday served notice to go on strike from January 4, 2021, another potential wedge to Nigeria’s educational advancement.
SSANIP members said the planned strike is over the Integrated Personal Payroll Information System (IPPIS) amongst other disagreements with the Federal Government. The disagreements were not immediately specified in the short tweet released on the official handle of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
SSANIP threatened similar action in November but was dissuaded by the Federal Government that promised to work ‘’assiduously to meet the Association’s demands.’’
The Federal Government has repeatedly assured that the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) is fine-tuning the payment platform (IPPIS) to accommodate the anomalies experienced.
Dispute over IPPIS has resulted in high frequency threat to strike by Polytechnics and University academic staff over the last 10 months.
