WED 17 FEB, 2021-theGBJournal- President Muhammadu Buhari has sent the 2021 budget proposal of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund to the National Assembly for consideration and approval in line with Sections 4,5 and 21 of the Nigerian Police Trust Fund (NPTF) Establishment Act 2019, according to a statement by the Presidency Wednesday.

The Trust Fund was established following Presidential assent to the Establishment Bill in 2019, as a special intervention fund for training and retraining of Police personnel, procurement of equipment, operational vehicles and other related facilities as well as the construction of Police stations, barracks and other living facilities for personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and their dependents.

The Bill states that the Trust Fund will consist of fund from a levy of 0.005% of the net profit of companies operating a business in Nigeria and the Bill also aims to provide a legal framework for the management and control of the Police Trust Fund.

The President said in his letter to the National Assembly that the revenue and expenditure in the 2021 proposal are consistent with the statutory functions of the NPTF in terms of providing funding through a special intervention fund for training and re-training of personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.

Among other issues, the President said the budget would also assist in payment for participation of personnel in seminars, conferences and other skills acquisitions courses.
