FRI, MARCH 22 2019-theG&BJournal-Against the backdrop of a continued negative image of Nigeria in South Africa and the need to engage a soft diplomacy approach to building bilateral relationships, the Nigeria Embassy through its Consulate in Johannesburg, has honored film maker and girl education advocate – Zuriel Oduwole.
She was formally received by the Nigerian community today at a reception organized in her honor at the Consul Generals residence. A source of pride to Nigerians, they turned out in their large numbers to see, meet, ask questions, and were privileged to watch some of Zuriel’s films at the colorful event today in suburban Johannesburg [see attached images].
Some of the youths at the event, talked about how their friends at school sometimes ridiculed them because of the negative news coverage in South Africa’s media about Nigeria, but now, they have ‘bragging rights’, because they see Nigeria through Zuriels global programs and accomplishments. The event was attended by other Africans living in South Africa and institutions, including South Africa Tourism, and covered by regional and global TV and news media, including Nigeria’s Channels TV, South Africa’s SABC and CGTN.
