THUR, 18 AUG, 2022-theGBJournal| The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) have suspended their strike which threw Nigeria into darkness for almost 20 hours and left businesses reeling with huge financial hole in their pockets.

The Union called the strike in response to what they say is the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s (TCN) ‘’Contravention of workers’ conditions and default on payment of entitlement,’’ and the alleged failure of the Federal Government to pay the entitlement of former staff of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) in December 2019.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige on Wednesday, subsequently summoned an emergency meeting of the electricity workers’ executive and the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to try and mitigate blackout.

At the end of the meeting, the NUEE General Secretary Joe Ajero told newsmen that the Union would suspend the strike for two weeks, suggesting a deal was reached to hold off while the issues raised by the Union are addressed.

Power was consequently restored by 10 pm to major cities and towns with Nigerians heaving a sigh of relief.
