Nigerian-American actress wins SAG award in Los Angeles

Uzo Aduba, 34, Nigerian-American born actress has won the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) award for an outstanding performance as Best Actress in a Television Comedy in Los Angeles.

The Screen Actors Guild Award is an accolade given by the Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists to recognise outstanding performances in film and primetime television.

Aduba, who also acted in the comedy series, Orange Is the New Black (OITNB) star felt incredibly honoured over the big win at the weekend.

“I would like to take the opportunity to acknowledge the actors who are at home, not here in this room with us but hoping to one day be in this room with us to continue to keep trying.

“To keep plugging, to keep working, no matter if anyone tells you to get out of that line that you’re waiting in!”

“Stay in line! You have the chance! It is yours!” Aduba said.

The talented actress beat out some major names in the category, including: Amy Poehler, Julia Loius-Dreyfus, Eddie Falco and Ellie Kemper.

She also thanked the show’s creator Jenji Kohan “for creating a show like this and putting it on television and making a show that reflects and represents so many people.”
