BENIN, JULY 6, 2016 – Gov. Adams Oshiomhole of Edo on Wednesday urged Muslims and other Nigerians not to relent in thanking God for his mercies and peace upon the country.Oshiomhole gave the charge in Benin when he received the Muslim community in the state capital, led by the Chief Imam of the state Central mosque, Alhaji Abdulfatai Enabulele.

He said that there was the need to continue thanking God for his benevolence to the country because without him decreeing peace for the nation, there won’t be peace.

He noted that in spite of the current challenges, Nigeria would be great.

According to him, this goal can be achieved if Nigerians embraced unity of purpose.

He said that the essence of fasting was not just to abstain from food but real transformation of lives.

Oshiomhole said that the Federal Government’s anti-corruption fight was yielding results and gave the assurance that within the next few months, Nigerians would begin to jubilate over the positive turn around in the country.

The governor said that if the anti-corruption fight was sustained, Nigeria would regain its pride.

“It is never enough to meet the needs of greedy leaders, but if resources are managed well, there will be enough to rebuild the country,” the governor said.

Earlier, Enabulele had said that the moral lessons in fasting were not limited to speaking the truth at all times.

He said that fasting was a period for self-examination, self-denial and supplication to Allah, adding that even though Ramadan was for Muslims, the lessons were for all.

The chief Imam, who also spoke on the state of the nation, appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to dialogue with stakeholders in the Niger Delta region to forestall the current youth restiveness in the area.

He commended Buhari for the commencement of the cleaning up of Ogoni land, describing the initiative as welcome development.

While urging leaders to be fair, he said that only purposeful and all inclusive leadership could redeem Nigeria.

On the forthcoming governorship election in the state, Enabulele appealed to all the candidates to play by the rules and present their manifesto for the citizens to evaluate them, instead of resorting to character assassination.
