SUN, OCT 08 2023-theGBJournal| Nigerian Government says it is deeply concerned about the outbreak of hostilities between Israel and Hamas in the early hours of Saturday, calling for de-escalation and ceasefire in the conflict that has so far claimed more than 200 casualties.

The Federal Government also called on both sides to exercise restraint, prioritize the safety of civilians and give room for humanitarian considerations.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf M. Tuggar noted in a statement Saturday that the cycle of violence and retaliation that the current escalation has assumed, only serves to perpetuate an unending cycle of pain and suffering for the civilian population, that bears the brunt of every conflict.

”We are therefore calling for a peaceful resolution of the conflict through dialogue” he said.

Meanwhile, both sides in the conflict have continued their barrage of attacks.

According to the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) over 3000 rockets were launched by Hamas in Gaza towards Israel Saturday with 20 communities in southern Israel invaded by Hamas.

News reports put the body count at over 350 including a German citizen identified as Shani Lauk, who was on a visit to Israel for a music festival.
