THUR 28 JAN, 2021-theGBJournal-With a score of 25/100 Nigeria earned one of its worst rankings in the Transparency International (TI) 2020 Corruption Perceptions Index, coming home at miserable 149 out of 180 countries analysed.
The score is described as a big blight in records of the federal government whose mantra has always been ‘’fight against corruption’’.
TI noted that 25 civil society organisations in the country denounced reports of hoarding of COVID-19 medications by states and called on anti-corruption institutions to investigate the allegations. The COVID-19 pandemic, TI said exposed the corruption associated with public procurement.
Transparency International analysed 180 countries to see how they scored in the fight against corruption. Seychelles, with a score of 66 outscored its peers in the Sub-Sahara Africa followed by Botswana (60) and Cape Verde (58).
At the bottom of the index are Sudan (16), Somalia (12) and South Sudasn (12), according to TI.
Cote de’ Ivoire was mentioned as a significant improver, scoring 36 on the CPI, an improvement of nine points since 2013.
Other significant improvers are Angola (27), Ethiopia (38), Senegal (45) and Tanzania (38).
