MON, APRIL. 17 2023-theGBJournal | It was high drama in Adamawa State weekend as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the State, Barrister Hudu Yunusa Ari declared Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani as the winner of the Adamawa State re-run governorship election mid-way into the collation of results.
INEC quickly distanced itself from the declaration, voided the result and suspended the collation of the results following strident protest from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) officials and other party officials at the collation Centre.
The Commission subsequently invited the REC and all involved in the show of shame to its headquarters in Abuja for questioning.
The Adamawa REC was later seen in various videos posted online brutalized and confessing to the crime as well as confirming that he was bribed to carry out the disgraceful crime.
In Kogi State, the maverick Senator, Dino Melaye secured the PDP ticket as the governorship candidate following the primary conducted by the party over the weekend.
He polled over 50% of the votes to beat his closest rival Barrister Kabiru Usman.
The Primary was supervised by INEC personnel.
In Akwa Ibom, INEC cancelled the Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency rerun election due to violence.
The INEC REC, Dr. Cyril Omorogbe said the election was cancelled in all 17 polling units as a result of reported snatching of election materials, including Bi-Modal Voters Accreditation Machine System (BIVAS) and other offences.
In Bayelsa State, Chief Timipre Sylva, former Minister of State for Petroleum, was declared winner of the State’s All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary.
The result was announced at the APC state secretariat in the State capital, Yenagoa by the Chairman of the party’s election committee, retired army Major General, A.T Jibrin.
Sylva secured 52,061 votes to defeat five other contestants.
In Kebbi State, INEC Sunday declared the APC candidate Nasiru Idris winner of the 2023 gubernatorial election. The declaration was made by the Returning officer for state.
Idris, who also is the President of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), scored 409, 225 votes to defeat Maj. General (rtd) Aminu Bande of the PDP.
Meanwhile, notable political names, secured their places in the Senate.
Gov, Aminu Tambuwal, Sokoto State PDP, was declared winner of Sokoto South Senatorial District.
In Sokoto North Senatorial District, Aliyu Wamakko was returned as winner.
Abdussamad Dasuki was also declared winner in the Kebbe/Tambuwal federal constituency supplementary election in the state.
In Yobe State, Ibrahim Bomai was declared elected to represent Yobe South Senatorial District.
