Nigeria Decides 2023 | Bola Ahmed Tinubu wins the Nigeria Presidential election, ending days of tumultuous results collation

WED. 01 MARCH, 2023-theGBJournal| Nigerians have chosen the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party Presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, 70, as its new President, INEC announced in the early hours of today, amidst a litany of objections by the opposition parties at the National collation in Abuja.

In declaring the election verdict, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu said, ‘’that Bola Ahmed of the APC having satisfied the requirements of the law is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.’’

In victory speech, the party, on its twitter handle, thanked Nigerians for electing its candidate.

‘’I congratulate His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his victory. Elected by the people, he is the best person for the job. I shall now work with him and his team to ensure an orderly handover of power,’’ President Muhammadu Buhari said in his congratulatory message to Tinubu.

Tinubu, according to INEC, won the Presidential election with a total of 8, 794, 726 votes ahead of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Abubakar Atiku who polled 6, 984, 520 votes. The Labour Party Nigeria candidate, Peter Obi, scored 6,101, 533 votes in third place while the NNP candidate, Kwankwaso came in a distant fourth with 1, 496, 687 votes.

Tinubu won in 12 States of Nigeria’s 36 States and scored significant numbers in many other states to claim the highest number of votes
