Nigeria announces COVID-19 curfew and restrictions, effective from midnight Tuesday

MON 10 MAY, 2021-theGBJournal- The Federal Government on Monday announced phase IV of COVID-19 curfew across the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The curfew takes effect from midnight on Tuesday.

The latest curfew, announced by the Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) on COVID-19 comes amid receding number of cases in the country. Nigeria reported on 39 new cases on Sunday in 7 states, Yobe-13, Lagos-12, Akwa Ibom-6, Edo-1, Kaduna-1 and Ogun 1.

The PSC also announced that mass gatherings in public places be restricted to 50 persons among new restrictions put in today. It said access to government institutions will be denied to anyone without face mask, bars and night clubs should remain closed.

No limitation was however placed on inter-state travel.

 Over 1, 666, 698 eligible Nigerians have so been vaccinated with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine across the country.

Total confirmed cases in the country to date is 165, 319 with 2, 065 fatalities. 156,297 patients are reported as discharged.
