SAT FEB 22 2025-theGBJournal| The Federal Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, hinted, that Federal Government’s visa-on-arrival policy will soon be scrapped, to be replaced by an automated process-automated landing and exit cards for visitors.
He said he expects the new process to be launched between March 1 and April 1, and will be linked to Interpol databases and criminal record systems, making it difficult for visas to be issued without proper background checks.
Tunji-Ojo dropped the hint Friday in Abuja at the closing ceremony of an Advance Passenger Information/Passenger Name Record training conducted for Nigeria Immigration Officers.
While explaining the reason for the decision, the Minister said the visa-on-arrival policy is no longer effective as it allows foreigners unhindered and illegal access into the country, and most without proper screening.
