Niger Update |ECOWAS leaders convane another Extraordinary Summit on situation in Niger, Burkina Faso, Mali send delegation

MON, AUGUST 07 2023-theGBJournal |President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has convened another Extraordinary Summit of the Authority on the political situation in the Republic of Niger.

The Summit will hold in Abuja, on Thursday, August 10, 2023.

The ECOWAS Leaders will be considering and discussing the political situation and recent developments in Niger during the Summit.

Earlier ECOWAS announced that its forces need more time to prepare before any invasion of Niger. This comes after the Nigerian Senate rejected call from President Tinubu to send Nigerian army to the country.

Meanwhile, A delegation from Burkina Faso and Mali has arrived Niger in show of support as more Western countries join ECOWAS in bid to oust the new military junta. The delegation is led by the Malian Minister of State, Minister of Territorial Administration.

And as the country announced the closure of its airspace, Air France has suspended flights to Mali and Burkina Faso becuase they oppose military intervention in Niger.

On Sunday, supporters of the military regime rallied in Niamey stadium in support of the new junta.
