THUR, AUGUST 17 2023-theGBJournal |Following the renewed bandit attacks in Niger State that claimed some lives including that of security personnel recently, Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago has disclosed that strategies have evolved to dialogue with bandits operating in the state.
The Governor stated this shortly after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He explained that the visit is aimed at seeking more support that would degrade the capabilities of bandits and halt the menace of insecurity in the state.
The Governor said the state government is adopting a non-kinetic approach in tackling insecurity in the state as all options for resolving security threats were opened including the establishment of a new Ministry for Nomadic and Pastoral Affairs, to among other things, identify the concerns of herdsmen and possible ways of addressing them.
He however said government is prepared to resort to the kinetic approach by engaging the military to combat the banditry if dialogue fails.
The Governor was companied by the Senator representing Niger East Senatorial District, Mohammed Sani Musa, and the Member Representing Bida/Gbako/Katcha Federal Constituency Saidu Musa Abdullahi as well as some top government officials.
