…Awards N7 billion road, bridges contract to connect Mokwa and Rabba Communities

TUE JUNE 10 2025-theGBJournal|Niger State governor, farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago has announced a donation of N1 billion to the victims of the recent flood disaster in Mokwa local area of the state.
The farmer Governor announced the donation during an on the spot assessment of houses destroyed by the flood, where he subsequently addressed the people of the community
He also revealed that the State government will provide 10 trucks each of rice, bean, maize, millet, sorghum to the flood victims.
While commiserating with the victims of the flood disaster, the farmer Governor promised that all donations made would be judiciously distributed to the victims through a committee that will be headed by his Deputy, Comrade Yakubu Garba,
Farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago said the state government will provide resettlement land and services.
He then directed the Ministry for Land and Survey to issue a certificate of occupancy (C of O) to the Federal government to facilitate immediate construction of the resettlement homes for the flood victims.
The farmer Governor said, while the State government awaits the construction of the resettlement homes by the Federal government, necessary arrangement will be made to ensure that the flood victims do not remain in IDP camp for too long.
He appreciated the Federal government, donor partners and other government agencies as well as spirited individuals that have so far supported the affected victims, and prayed for the reposed of those that loss their lives during the flood.
Speaker, Niger State House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji, sympathised with the people of Mokwa especially the victims of the flood and encouraged them to remain steadfast in the will of God at all times.
The Etsu Nupe and Chairman Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alh. Yahaya Abubakar and the former Deputy Governor of Niger State, Alh. Mohammed Ahmed Ketso among other speakers, commended the farmer Governor for his kindness to the people of Mokwa and also appreciated the support and solidarity from all those that have made donations.
Meanwhile, Niger State government has awarded the construction of a 12 km road project from Mokwa to Rabba worth N7 billion.
The farmer Governor disclosed this when he paid an on the spot assessment and sympathy visit to the people of Mokwa to the recent devastating flood disaster that killed many, destroyed property and livelihoods worth millions of naira.
He said the road project, which will start immediately will include the construction of 4 bridges, to connect the two communities.
The farmer Governor directed relevant MDAs to take a complete survey of waterways and topography of Niger State with the view to relocating people off coastal lines to avert a repeat of the disaster.
He enjoined the people to unite and not to allow sentiments among them, especially in a period like this,while assuring them of continued government commitment to the wellbeing of its citizens.
A symbolic distribution of relief items was made to selected households.
The farmer Governor was also in Rabba to assess the bridge that was cut off by the flood, where he used the opportunity to also sympathize with the people of the community.
