…NASD Securities Index and market capitalisation rising by 0.46% to close at 3,689.72 points and N2.21 trillion
SAT FEB 07 2026-theGBJournal| Nigerian stocks surged on Friday as sustained institutional participation, reinforced by a robust turnover of shares and value traded drove the benchmark NGX All-Share Index and market capitalization up 3.84% to close the week at 171,727.49 and N110.235 trillion respectively.
All other indices finished higher with the exception of NGX Insurance index which depreciated by 2.33%.
Shares of MTNN (+8.4%), DANGCEM (+7.1%) SEPLAT (+10.0%), WAPCO (+6.4%) and STANBIC (+8.5%) ARADEL (+15.36% w/w) gained big, helping to drag the year-to-date returns to a new high of +10.4%.
Market activity also strengthened, with total trading volume and value rising by 53.5% w/w and 98.3% w/w, respectively.
Sector performance was broadly positive, as the Oil & Gas (+10.9%), Industrial Goods (+4.4%), Banking (+3.6%), and Consumer Goods (+1.0%) advanced, while the Insurance (-2.3%) index declined.
Sectoral leadership in Friday’s trading came from mid-and-small cap counters, with Deap Capital, Nahco and Omatek posting the maximum allowable daily gains, indicating selective bargain hunting and portfolio rebalancing.
Trading in the top three equities, namely Chams Holding Company Plc, Access Holdings Plc and Universal Insurance Plc (measured by volume), accounted for 664.942 million shares worth N6.801 billion in 15,161 deals, contributing 17.23% and 5.29% to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
Overall, seventy-one equities appreciated in price during the week, higher than forty-four equities in the previous week. Thirty-five equities depreciated in price, lower than forty-nine equities in the previous week, while forty-two equities remained unchanged, lower than fifty-five recorded in the previous week.
Meanwhile, The NASD market extended its bullish streak for a fourth consecutive session, with both the NASD Securities Index and market capitalisation rising by 0.46% to close at 3,689.72 points and N2.21 trillion, respectively.
This lifted the market’s weekly performance to a 1.64% gain.
Trading activity remained subdued, as transaction volume declined by 67.91% despite a 33.48% increase in transaction value.
On the performance board, SDPLC (+9.03%) led the gainers, while SDGEFLUID (-10.47%) topped the decliners for the session.
