TUE, 09 AUG, 2022-theGBJournal| Today, the domestic bourse extended losses for the second consecutive session, bringing the benchmark index down 2.26% – the biggest single day loss since 30 March 2020 – to settle at 49,350.71 points, the lowest point since 28 April.
The market’s weak performance was driven primarily by selloffs in index heavyweights, DANGCEM (-9.06%) and MTNN (-4.29%). Consequently, the year-to-date (YTD) return fell to 15.53%, while market capitalization lost N614.35bn to close at N26.62trn.
Analysis of today’s market activities showed trade turnover settled lower relative to the previous session, with the value of transactions decreasing by 24.50%. A total of 140.61m units of shares valued at N1.60bn were exchanged in 3,895 deals. JAPAULGOLD (-8.11%) led the volume chart with 23.18m units while SEPLAT (+0.00%) led the value chart in deals worth N441.75m.
Market breadth closed negative at a 1.45-to-1 ratio with declining issues outnumbering advancing ones. CORNERST (-9.33%) led fifteen others on the laggard’s log while NEM (+10.00%) topped ten others on the leader’s table.
